Kencho-ji Temple
Head temple of the Rinzai Kencho-ji school and first of the Five Great Zen Temples of Kamakura, founded by Hojo Tokiyori and known as the birthplace of kenchin-jiru soup. Past the main gate, the Sanmon gate, Buddha hall, Dharma hall and ornate Karamon gate (all Important Cultural Properties) follow one another; there is also a National Treasure bell and a garden that is a Place of Scenic Beauty.
