Iga, Mie / 伊賀上野城
Iga Ueno Castle
A castle built by Todo Takatora, whose inner moat and stone walls remain; the three-storey keep holds weapons, armour and Todo family relics, and its ceiling has 46 paintings on square cards by notable figures including Yokoyama Taikan. The present keep was built in 1935 (Showa 10) by Kawasaki Katsu, and for its white three-tier form it is also called "Hakuho Castle"; the inner-moat stone walls, about 30 m high, are among the tallest in Japan.
