Kushimoto, Wakayama / 橋杭岩
Hashigui-iwa Rocks
About 40 large and small rock towers, about 15 m high, line up straight for about 850 m; sea erosion left only the hard parts, standing like the piles of a bridge. It is chosen among the "100 best sunrise spots in Japan", and the area is a breeding ground of the internationally rare Styan's grasshopper warbler. Legend says Kobo Daishi raced a demon to build a bridge overnight and set them up in one night.
