Gokanosho
A remote area of Yatsushiro surrounded by mountains of 1,300-1,700 m and deep gorges, where legend says defeated Heike warriors fled. The autumn-leaf season, when the forests and gorges turn colour, is a spectacular view, including around the suspension bridges and waterfalls; the best time is early to mid November.
