Cape Hyuga (Umagase)
Cape Hyuga, in Nippo Kaigan Quasi-National Park, is a ria coast about 5 km long, lined with the "columnar joints of Cape Hyuga", a national natural monument. "Umagase" is named because the whole cape looks like a horse's back from the sea; the observatory at the end of the path looks over a grand panorama of the Pacific. About 2 minutes away, the viewing space "Skeruccha!" was renewed with glass in 2022, letting you look straight down the sheer cliff beneath your feet.
