Sakata, Yamagata / 飛島
Tobishima Island
An island 39 km north-west of Sakata Port, reached in 75 minutes by the regular boat "Tobishima". As a stopover for migrating birds it draws many birdwatchers in spring and autumn, along with anglers and trekkers who come for the flowers; the area around the Hanatozaki observatory looks out over the Sea of Japan and Mt. Chokai.
