Ohara Museum of Art
Founded in 1930, Japan's first private art museum centred on Western painting, established by Ohara Magosaburo, a businessman who contributed to Kurashiki's cultural development. The main building shows many famous Western works, such as El Greco's "Annunciation" and Claude Monet's "Water Lilies", with Renoir and Gauguin; the collection of about 3,000 works also covers ancient Egyptian art and modern and contemporary Western and Japanese art.
