Japan's last castle built in the traditional style (completed 1854) in Hokkaido's only castle town; the rebuilt keep is a museum, and the park has about 10,000 cherry trees of 250 varieties.

Use the free visitors' car park in the temple district of Matsumae Park (about 40 cars, unpaved), about 5 min on foot from the museum.
