Kuki Shrine (Air Shrine)
A one-of-a-kind shrine whose object of worship is "air", built in July 1990 to give thanks for the blessings of air. In a beech forest, a 5 m square stainless steel plate acts as a mirror reflecting the seasons to express the air; the main shrine is an underground space 3 m deep, surrounded by a torii of four pillars for the four seasons, where clean air is enshrined in 12 unglazed jars for the 12 months. The town made June 5, World Environment Day, its "Air Day", and the "Air Festival" held then opens the underground shrine. It stands in the grounds of Asahi Shizenkan and is not a religious corporation.
