Fujikawaguchiko, Yamanashi / 河口浅間神社
Kawaguchi Asama Shrine
Built in the year after the great eruption of Mt. Fuji in 864 to calm it, the shrine enshrines Asama no Okami, the deity of Mt. Fuji. The grounds have the "seven cedars", more than 1,200 years old. "Chigo no Mai", a traditional dance performed to calm eruptions of Mt. Fuji, is an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property and is still danced by girls at the annual festival on April 25 and the Daidai Mikagura festival on July 28.
