Akita Dog Hall (Akita Dog Preservation Society)
The museum on the 3rd floor displays detailed material on the history and nature of Akita dogs, and in front of the hall stands "Bokyo no Hachiko", a statue of the loyal dog Hachiko, who was born in Odate. On weekdays only, real Akita dogs are in the office (no petting; they may be absent at short notice). The society's main show is held every May 3, with over 150 Akita dogs from around the world judged by the "Akita standard".
