It has 40 rooms around a vast Japanese garden and 7 storehouses; rebuilt over 10 years from the Taisho period, the house, harmonising various styles, is a masterpiece of modern Japanese architecture and a national Important Cultural Property. It prospered with farming and charcoal making in the Edo period and sericulture in the Meiji period, and was selected as a Tottori Prefecture Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings in 2004. Hot water springs from its shores and bottom, and two hot spring areas, Togo Onsen and Hawai Onsen, lie by the lake. Many inns have distinctive baths, and the "Kawara Rotenburo" open-air bath in the riverbed below Misasa Bridge lets you bathe to the sound of the river. Inns line the Mitoku River, with the Kajika Bridge downstream and the Koidani Bridge upstream, and in summer you hear kajika frogs. The sightseeing boat weaves between the islands so you can see the strange rocks up close, with a live guide by the captain, for about 40 minutes. The small boat "Boken Cruising Uradome-go" takes narrow routes the sightseeing boat cannot, into sea arches, caves and inlets (about 50 minutes). Several facilities for running steam locomotives remain; after the turntable was restored, the C12 167 locomotive that once ran on the line was obtained from Taka in Hyogo and is being preserved. With a platform ticket you can see the locomotive, including inside the cab.
